“Marcel and Monsieur Pagnol” by Sylvain Chomet in Special Screening at Cannes 2025

We are proud to announce the selection of MARCEL AND MONSIEUR PAGNOL, the animated film by Sylvain Chomet, for a Special Screening at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

At the height of his fame, Marcel Pagnol receives a commission from the editor‑in‑chief of a major women’s magazine to write a serialized literary feature in which he can recount his childhood, his Provence, and his first loves…

As he begins drafting the opening pages, the boy he once was—little Marcel—suddenly appears to him. His memories then flood back through the words: the arrival of sound cinema, the first great film studio, his attachment to actors, the experience of writing. The greatest storyteller of all time thus becomes the hero of his own story.

Merlusse presented at Cannes Classics

And as one bit of good news often hides another, the film Merlusse will be presented in a new restoration as part of Cannes Classics.

We thank the Transperfect Media laboratory for the quality of the restoration, Guillaume Schiffman for supervising the color grading, MK2 Film and Carlotta Films for their efforts in distributing the Marcel Pagnol film catalog.
