New 2022/2023 edition in partnership with Le Figaro
Encouraged by the success of the first “Marcel Pagnol Short Story Contest”, the City of Allauch and the Marcel Pagnol Museum Association are launching the second edition of this contest, which is free and open to everyone aged 16 and over. With a record number of participants and high quality texts, the “Marcel Pagnol short story contest in Allauch” has immediately become a major writing contest for amateur writers. And this in the two defined categories: Youth (16/18 years old) and Adults (over 18 years old). The national partnership of Le Figaro, but also the partnerships of La Marseillaise, La Provence, France Bleu Provence and Larousse Editions have greatly contributed to this success. This year, these supporters are joined by the Librairie Prado Paradis of Marseille.
The launch of the competition is supported by the distribution of information flyers and a poster campaign.
Composed of writers, literary journalists and cultural personalities, the jury of the “Marcel Pagnol Short Story Contest” will choose two winning short stories in each category (Youth and Adult). It will also have the possibility to select, in one or the other category, an additional short story for which it has had a “crush”. Numerous prizes will be awarded to the winners. Daniel Picouly, writer, playwright, Prix Renaudot, president of the jury, Nicolas Pagnol, Marcel Pagnol’s grandson, Floryse Grimaud, organizer of the Contest, creator of the Marcel Pagnol Award, Jacqueline Fabre, elected official, delegated to Culture in the city of Allauch, Mohammed Aissaoui, literary journalist at the Figaro, writer, Renaudot essay prize winner, Olga Bibiloni, head of the Culture Department at La Provence, Franz-Olivier Giesbert, journalist, editorialist, writer, Hervé Godard, journalist, columnist on France Bleu Provence, Yan Lespoux, writer, short story specialist, Jérémy Noé, literary journalist at La Marseillaise.
The incipit in which the short story must be set is chosen by Daniel Picouly from a work by Marcel Pagnol. This year, it is taken from “Manon des sources”:
“Dad was a water seeker, this one is a gold seeker. He may not have any more luck, but in any case, he is looking for something.”
To extend this incipit, which is the principle of this contest, what will the candidates of the “Marcel Pagnol Short Story Contest 2022/2023” be looking for? Fortune, glory, honors, love, wisdom, truth? or still and always water so precious yesterday as today? There are many possible avenues to let your imagination and your pen run wild under the tutelage of the great Marcel Pagnol and Daniel Picouly’s mischief!
The winning short stories may be published in the press. For the first edition, La Marseillaise reproduced the winning stories in a double page spread. This year, the publication of a collection of the best short stories is also envisaged.
Scheduled for Saturday, February 4 in Allauch in the late afternoon, it will give rise to a festive moment of exchange, in the presence of Nicolas Pagnol, Lionel de Cala, Mayor of Allauch and Departmental Councillor, Daniel Picouly, members of the jury and partners. Press / Communication:
